Build A School

We’re building a school in Beatrice Farming Community to honour Patrick Chihwayi and 4 children who lost their lives while he was transporting 22 children home from school. This project brings quality education within walking distance, transforming how children access learning and creating a hub for the entire community.
Current priorities:
  • $15,000 for land taxes to secure the 21.4-hectare site
  • $10,000 to fence the property
  • $5,000 for land clearing and site preparation
Elsie Porter’s (nee Chihwayi) family have donated land for this project. Every dollar brings us closer to breaking ground. Support Zimbabwe education where it matters most.

Build A Clinic

Alongside the school, we’re building a medical clinic to provide emergency healthcare access to Beatrice Farming Community. Currently, medical emergencies require hours of travel, leading to preventable deaths. Women give birth at home without assistance. This clinic will save lives.
Medical clinic will provide:
  • Emergency medical care within the community
  • Maternal and child health services
  • Basic medical treatment and supplies
  • Healthcare access that prevents tragedy
A local doctor has donated adjoining land specifically for this project, believing every community deserves healthcare within reach.

Trusted Partners Creating Change

Why We Started

Two Families, One Mission

On 31 May 2023, Elsie Porter’s father, Patrick Chihwayi and 4 children were tragically killed while he was driving them home from school in the Beatrice farming community. Eighteen children survived but with lasting scars.
Patrick had been their lifeline, covering school fees, providing uniforms, and ensuring children had access to education. Elsie couldn’t let his work end.
In Australia, Sue Lay had just lost her mother, Jill, who had taught English in Zimbabwe decades earlier and where her father, Dick, had worked as a geologist.

Two families. Two legacies. One urgent need.

Today, children still wake at 4:00am to walk 20km to school. Some have dropped out completely. Others are falling into darkness. This is why Elsie and Sue founded Zimbabwean EduHealth Organisation.

Our Vision

To stand beside remote Zimbabwean communities as they strengthen their futures, where quality education and essential healthcare are accessible to all, and every family is empowered to thrive through opportunity, sustainability and mutual respect and collaboration.
Through grassroots partnerships we will assist in building brighter futures – one village at a time.

Our Mission

To partner with remote Zimbabwean communities by expanding access to quality education and healthcare, guided by faith in humanity, compassion, and a shared commitment to dignity, sustainability and lasting impact.

Real Lives, Real Impact

These are the children Patrick was driving home. These are the families forever changed. These are the reasons we keep going.

Meet the Women Behind the Mission

Elsie - Co-Founder

On 31 May 2023, I lost my father Patrick Chihwayi in the most devastating way imaginable. He was doing what he always did, driving children home from school. That’s who he was. A man who paid school fees for families who couldn’t afford them. A man who woke early to transport children. A man who believed every child deserves education.
When I got the news, my world shattered. But in my grief, I found purpose.
My father spent his life lifting others up, especially in communities where opportunities were scarce but potential was great. I couldn’t let his work end. I couldn’t let those children continue suffering. I couldn’t turn away from the community that loved him.

So alongside my dear friend Sue, we founded this organisation. Not as saviours, but as partners. Not to create dependency, but to build sustainability. Not to impose solutions, but to support community-led change.
This is my father’s living legacy. This is how his light continues to shine.
Every child sponsored, every donation received, every life changed, it’s Patrick continuing his work through all of us.

Sue - Co-Founder

My family resided in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) from 1958 till 1969, where my mother Gillian (Jill) taught English at a boys’ high school and my father worked as a geologist. To them, Rhodesia was “God’s own country,” a rich, fertile land full of potential. Those days were such a contrast to Zimbabwe now.
My father died of cancer in 1998 at just 71 years old. My darling mother passed away in July 2025 at 97, her mind clouded by advanced dementia.
When I received my inheritance, I knew exactly what to do. Part of it is being used to purchase a 24-seater school bus for Beatrice farming community, in a country my parents loved. Elsie and I are currently sourcing a bus which will be dedicated to my parents’ memory.
Dick and Jill valued integrity, generosity, respect, and understanding of cultural differences. Through this work, I uphold those values.
To the best of my ability, I will honour their legacy by empowering communities we serve with access to quality education and healthcare.
