Community School Bus – Dijisu

Zimbabwean EduHealth recently purchased a Toyota Hiace van to serve as a school bus for children in the Beatrice Farming Community. The bus has arrived in Harare and is ready for handover to the community, where it will begin transporting children safely to school.

Project Foundation

This school bus project has been made possible through a personal contribution from Sue Lay, given in honour of her parents, Dick and Jill Lay. The contribution was made as part of Sue Lay's inheritance and reflects a long standing family commitment to supporting education and community wellbeing.

Vocational Training Pilot Programme

Young people affected by the 2023 accident are learning poultry farming skills through paid employment in Beatrice. Two trainees completed their first harvest in March 2026 under experienced supervision. This pilot programme builds the foundation for a larger vocational training centre that will teach agricultural and livelihood skills, creating sustainable income pathways for youth in rural Zimbabwe.

Vocational Training Centre Construction

Planning is underway to build a vocational training facility on donated land in Beatrice farming community. The centre will deliver agricultural skills training using a revolving door model where trainees pass resources to the next group, creating self-sustaining development. Council requirements confirmed and site preparation has begun. First programmes focus on poultry and pig farming.

Child Sponsorship Program

The organisation sponsors school fees, uniforms, stationery, and transport for children in Beatrice farming community who cannot afford education costs. Sponsorships continue alongside vocational training programmes, ensuring children access both formal education and practical skills pathways. Annual sponsorship costs $420 AUD per child. Some children require privacy protection, so photos may not always be shared.

Beatrice Community School

Plans to establish a primary and secondary school in Beatrice farming community are progressing as Phase 2. The organisation is currently focusing resources on vocational training centre construction to meet immediate employment needs. Once the training facility is operational, school construction will resume. Land has been donated and site preparation plans include classroom buildings, water infrastructure, and facilities.

Community Health Clinic

Zimbabwean EduHealth is working toward the development of a community clinic to improve access to essential healthcare services. Planning discussions are underway as the organisation continues building support for this initiative.

Good Shepherd Children's Home Support

Zimbabwean EduHealth provides ongoing support to Good Shepherd Children's Home in Chinhoyi, which cares for 48 children aged 0 to 18. Support includes books, stationery, clothing, sports equipment, groceries, and medical supplies. The most recent delivery of 200kg supplies took place in December 2024. Regular visits and donations ensure children at the home have access to essential resources for wellbeing.

A Legacy of Community Support

Long before Zimbabwean EduHealth was formally established, community support was already woven into the fabric of daily life. Patrick Chihwayi sponsored local soccer teams, provided assistance to neighbours in need, and helped families access education and healthcare when resources were scarce. This spirit of mutual aid and generosity continues today through our work in education and healthcare.

Patrick pioneered a revolving door training model for agricultural skills in rural Zimbabwe. He would train community members in pig farming at his property, then provide two participants with pregnant sows to begin their own operations. As piglets matured, those farmers would pass breeding stock to the next group of trainees, creating a self-sustaining cycle. Knowledge and resources multiplied throughout the community without ongoing external dependence. This approach ensured entire communities could build agricultural livelihoods with dignity and autonomy. That same methodology now shapes our vocational training programmes, honouring Patrick’s legacy through practical skills development.
